Modifications to waste management regulations in Catalonia
Royal Decree 210/2018, of April 6, approving the Program for the Prevention and Management of Waste and Resources in Catalonia (PRECAT20) entered into force on May 5, 2018.
Issues worth highlighting include:
- The elimination of the deposit paid to the city council when the license for works is obtained, which has been replaced by an deposit acceptance form signed off by an authorized waste manager. This amount guarantees the proper destination of waste separated by type. Both the minimum quantities of waste to be separated and the amount of said deposit have not varied with respect to those determined in decree 89/2010.
- The license holder must submit a waste management certificate to the city council, indicating the quantity and type of waste delivered.
- Regarding the reuse (at the same or another work site) of construction waste, the RD specifies that in the cases of reuse of uncontaminated earth and stones, the license for the works must indicate how this type of management will be certified, whether through the city council’s technical department or by external certified companies.
